An Introduction to Autoresponders

By Dave D.

If you like replying to hundreds of emails per day, like sending out an offer to loads of subscribers then you definitely need to know what an autoresponder is.Sadly enough if you are already sending out loads of emails without an autoresponder then you are not an internet marketer. If you say you are then I've still got a lot to learn in the world of internet marketing.

People always expect speedy replies to all their email enquiries. I admit I'm no different, I'll be happy even if it's just from an automated reply. What an autoresponder do is actually automatically respond to all incoming email messages the moment they are received. The good news about autoresponder is they come quite inexpensively, sometimes even free.

Emails are internet businesses lifeline. Autoresponders are programs or scripts that are configured to send an email at a predetermined time or at a set occurrence such as an incoming mail. This saves the marketer valuable time and can concentrate on other things at hand instead of replying emails.

Besides answering emails, autoresponders are also used to send out other information such as services offered, product announcements, price list and so on. You can offer your subscribers a special offer or free download and even give updates on your website. Autoresponders are a good way to build a solid relationship with your prospects. Its uses are only limited by the limitations of our marketing skills.

An autoresponder program runs from a specialized script on the web hosting server. It may use a webpage form or just simply operate from your e-mail account. This type of script is actually programmed to work by sending out a pre-set message when an email is being received. The email has to be sent to an exact email address or script then it will be triggered for a respond.

Besides sending out standardized messages, it can send out an unnumbered amount of follow-up messages at a pre-set interval of time. You can actually send out new messages every single day for however long a period you want.

There are quite a number of companies offering autoresponders for free but they normally have a requirement that their advertisement have to be attached together with the mailings. They are also those who offer autoresponder services for a very small price-whatever it is, you have to consider both services carefully. You could go to forums or shop around for a good service.

If you want to personalize the messages in your autoresponder, you can add a signature file. A signature file is like a business card: you have your name, address, company, contact numbers and maybe a little brief message.

It is always advisable to include a signature file to every outgoing mail. This would create your own presence or identity to the customer. The more they see it the more likely you will be remembered.

A standardized signature can be used for all employees in an organization or if you are adventurous you can let your employees make their own personal signatures but just make sure you lay out the rules and regulations for making a personal signature.

An ideal signature length should not be more than five lines of text and wrap around 65 characters per line. If possible try various email programs to make sure your texts are not cut off. They should include your company name if any, your name, your email address, contact details and of course a short description of yourself or your company.

Another common use of an autoresponders is to send out short e-courses that are offered to site visitors. The choice of topics must be targeted and you must be at least knowledgeable in your field so that your teachings will come naturally. When you have found a topic, divide them into sub-topics and then offer them for a one week course. The first autoresponder reply should always try to be a welcome note for coming to your site then followed by a preview of the e-course. Make the preview as interesting as can be to make your customers keep on reading.

Try to include the topic title, lesson number and a signature file with information about your products and services for every lesson that you send out. Also include a preview of the next lesson at the end of the lesson to entice your customer. Make sure each issue has quality content; you do not want to loose prospects in the very early stages of your autoresponder campaign. You will need to write up your e-course in advance then plug them into your autoresponder.

To look for an autoresponder service provider, just search the search engine and it will list out a few for you to choose from. After the sign-up process you will normally be guided on how to set-up and transfer your pre-written text.

Email marketing is inexpensive and fast making it an exceptional marketing tool. Autoresponders makes email marketing a simple operation, connecting to thousands of prospects in a short span of time maximizing exposure. If you are new to the internet marketing scene, then it is a good time to look at autoresponders as your best friend.
