Grabbing Your Readers Attention With Your Subject Line

By Dave D.

An Internet marketer uses an opt-in list as one of their marketing arsenal. It gives them the ability to make available their newsletters to consented subscribers. People sign-up mailings list knowing that they will be communicated by e-mail with news and updates from your site.

It all sounds simple and easy but there is just a little problem with the scenario above. Not every subscriber reads your e-mail. Majority of the lists built comes with a free product, software or even an offer making it attractive to freebie seekers. These groups of subscribers normally have minimal interest in your e-mails and would just delete them upon scanning the subject line.

But there is a way where you can reduce the amount of unread or unopened e-mail substantially. No one wants to waste his or her time and effort putting up a newsletter only to have no one to read it. You need to hold their interest long enough so that they would have interest to drop by your website and browse thru your offers or services available.

They are a few good ways where you can get your subscribers to at least have a look at your newsletter. One of them is the subject line. The subject is the key to determining whether or not the recipient wants to open your e-mail. If you started off with a subject that does not pique interest then your efforts are wasted.

When writing your subject line, it must be brief and to the point. Your e-mail should also provide a review for that issue so as to inform the recipient of the contents available. This is actually an important factor when you need to grab the interest of your readers. Remember, a subscriber may not actually read your subscribed e-mails.

What makes a good subject line? Well, a good subject line should always catch the inquisitiveness of the reader. It must be actually able to force your recipient to open the e-mail. A certain sentiment needs to be triggered then your chances of the reader opening your e-mail would be higher.

You will need to use certain keywords to get the type of reaction you need. You must also be reminded that the recipient only spends a fraction of time looking at the subject line of an e-mail. It is of importance that you grab your reader's interest right away. A subject line that starts off with 'tips' or 'methods' is a good way to begin. Examples are "guides to", "how to", tips on certain topics.

A question as a subject line also brings much interest. Questions such as "Are you a smart marketer?" or "Are your marketing skills adequate?" are just some of the examples here. Just try to make sure the questions asked stays on topic relating to your site, which the subscriber signed up for. Questions as subject line are very useful because they are able to stir your reader's emotions. The moment they finished reading the question, they begin to speculate on answers already.

Another good subject line is one that has the ability to command your reader. Powerful statements such as "Call today for great discounts", or "Act now for a super bonus", screams out the benefits your establishment has for your readers.

Breaking news used as subject lines intrigues your subscribers. An example would be "Introducing new notebooks with solar powered source" used for notebook manufacturers. This creates interest with the recipient and will open the e-mail for further information.
