Article writing has always been considered as a task to many. No doubt we have been through it in the days of schooling, the thought of picking up a pen and writing an article still makes many people cringe.
There are still many people out there who adore writing; some are even so gifted that they can write without an outline beforehand. But for the others, they employ some methods and certain procedures before writing an article in order to keep focused on the written topic.
One effective method that I use to prepare myself before writing an article is to plan for an outline first. If you have an outline for your article, it is easier to map out the various steps needed to building your article and also it will give you some ideas on where to begin - a common problem among amateur writers. An outline will make your task a lot easier and more organized.
An outline is basically a blueprint or design of your article. It is divided into three parts mainly the introduction or opening, the body and then the conclusion. In each of these parts you can list down the points or sentences that you need or want to include in your article. Include some focal points to make your article worthy and interesting to the reader.
Before forming an outline for your article, brainstorm for ideas first. Put in writing all the ideas then weed out the useless ones later. Think of focal points that will attract readers and take many notes. Set a target time for your brainstorming task, which includes research and information gathering. Look through your notes again and be familiarized with the topic and then you can start to weed out the content that is of no use.
Next is to brainstorm for sub titles and sub topics. You need to find one that will captivate the mind of your readers, even the sub topics. It needs to be concise and make sure it bears meaning to your article. When you have gotten all the facts, then only you can form an outline for your article.
From this outline you can then work on the body. Connecting all the sub topics and paragraphs will be able to form the body for you easily. Read thru your notes and insert the body content where suitable. Do the same for the introduction and concluding part of the article. The concluding part can also be to sum up the body of the article.
Always read and double check what you have put into your article. Compare it against your original outline to make sure you have not strayed away from the main topic. It is always common for people to stray away from the original content because they get caught up in the moment, and then start to add on unnecessary contents. Your outline will keep this in check and all your efforts and time utilized to form an outline will not go to waste. It serves as your backbone in writing an article so rely on it as a useful tool in article writing.
